I wanted to provide an update for everyone on where things stand with XO Hoops.  The code for the data-mining and simulation have required much more work than I had originally thought.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to just plug in the code that was left behind and use it.  And because Ben never really wrote the code with other people in mind, and because the language it was written in has limited debugging capabilities, this has meant that I’ve needed to rewrite these pieces.  Of course, I’ve heavily borrowed from the old code wherever I can, but this is still a substantial project.  I have no finish date yet, and the nature of this task makes it impossible to set one.  But things are moving along well and I will continue to keep you updated.

It’s been a long time coming, but I finally can announce to everyone the good news: XO Hoops will continue!  After a process that took much longer than anticipated (and much longer than I know anyone would have wanted), I have worked out a deal with Andrew Simpkins.  Some of you may know Andrew as the current GM of The Whales on XOT, and others of you may know him from the forums as “asimpkins”.  If you don’t know him well, you will soon - he will be the new owner of XO Hoops.When deciding what to do with XO, I knew that I wanted to do what I could to help it stay alive.  But I also wanted to make sure that it would be in capable hands, that the next people to take over the website would be able to keep the spirit of the game alive while improve it and pushing it forward in a way that I never really had the time to do.  When Andrew expressed interest in taking over the site, I knew he was the right person for the job.  I had always respected Andrew’s input in the forums, and had frequent conversations with him about the direction of the site.  Almost everything he said jibed with what I was thinking - we were on the same page.Originally, I wanted to try and still be involved with the site, even if it couldn’t be on a day-to-day basis.  Unfortunately, due to potential conflicts with my current job, I couldn’t manage that.  But even though I’m not involved, I don’t want anyone to think this will take XO in a radically new direction.  Andrew, along with a few other people who will be helping him out, has the right goals in mind with regard to XO, and I’m sure they will be able to do a far better job of achieving those than I ever could have done.So celebrate!  Enjoy!  The game we all love will be back soon, and I believe that in a short amount of time, you will see that having a dedicated group of people leading the way on XO Hoops will make the site better than ever.If you’re interested in staying a GM, log back into your account or send an email to andrewsimpkins [at] gmail [dot] com.  And if you have any questions for me, you can still contact me at xohoops [at] gmail [dot] com.  If you have questions for Andrew, post ‘em in the forums or contact him at andrewsimpkins [at] gmail [dot] com.

So I reset all the players who had signed with team “N/A” (because of a bug) to a random day in the last two days.  They should all be available to be signed now.  If someone isn’t, let me know and I’ll fix it.  I think I finally found the bug in the code that was causing the issue, so hopefully it shouldn’t happen anymore.

Romel Beck has been added to the free agency pool, Day 18 for all leagues.  As always, let me know if there’s someone you’re looking at who is not in the database and I will add them.

The free agency period has started.  The signings of Day 1 will take place on Wednesday, October 7th at 9 PM eastern.  Let me know if anything’s not working - free agency is a complicated process that can often result in bugs.

Finally - the long period of nothingness is over.  The free agency period will start Monday night at 9 PM eastern time.  Make sure to get your qualifying offers in by that deadline or you will lose the rights to your free agents!

I want to let everyone know that I have decided on a final list of position changes that will take affect for this coming season (so I will make the changes in the database soon).  Those changes are:

Paul Millsap - SF/PF/C, will be PF/C
Kris Humphries - SF/PF/C, will be PF/C
Kevin Martin - PG/SG/SF, will be SG/SF
John Salmons - PG/SG/SF, will be SG/SF
Tyrus Thomas - SF/PF/C, will be PF/C
David Lee - SF/PF/C, will be PF/C
Amir Johnson - SF/PF, will be PF/C
Larry Hughes - PG/SG/SF, will be SG/SF
Udonis Haslem - SF/PF/C, will be PF/C
Brandan Wright - SF/PF/C, will be PF/C
Jason Thompson - SF/PF/C, will be PF/C

These are the eligibilities that produce the most problems with the simulation as currently constructed.  We’ve been discussing these for awhile, so hopefully it’s not a surprise to anyone.  And if it creates problems with your roster, you still have the rest of the offseason to adjust.
